Who We Are and What We do

Since 2006, The RumbleBox Coalition has been committed to providing earthquake survivial kits, free of charge, to citizens of the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.

Another RumbleBox Success!

Mercy Terrace is an affordable housing development for roughly 200 low income seniors, run by The Sisters of Mercy in San Francisco.

The total cost of arming every one of these residents with RumbleBox Earthquake survivial kits was roughly $8,500.00.

Thanks to the generous collective donations of dozens of individuals, we were able to make this giveaway a great success!

An Interview with the Founders

What is 'The RumbleBox Coalition'?

The RumbleBox Coalition is a San Francisco based charitable organization, and our story is a simple one:

  • We help prepare residents of San Francisco, particularly those from vulnerable populations, for the next major Bay Area earthquake by creating 72-hour earthquake preparedness kits.

  • We supply these kits, which we call RumbleBoxes, with American Medical Association (AMA) approved first aid kits, 3 days of water, Battery Free Hand-Cranked Radio/Flashlight combos, Coast Guard approved Food Rations, can openers, "Go Bags" (duffel bags in case you need to leave your residence), sanitary supplies, disaster tips/documentation and more...

  • We raise funds through online donations and through public and private grants.

  • These funds are put towards the creation and distribution of FREE RumbleBoxes to vulnerable populations, including seniors, those with physical or mental disabilities, those faced with poverty, and other worthy recipients.

  • All RumbleBox 72-Hour Earthquake Survival Kits are provided FREE OF CHARGE to our recipients.

Mission Creek Sponsorship 2009

Mission Creek Senior Community housing complex is an affordable senior housing development offering apartments for 180 lower income elders, including the previously homeless, disabled, and those facing HIV/AIDS.

The total cost of arming every one of these residents with RumbleBox Earthquake survivial kits is only $7,478.00.

We're looking for a corporate or individual sponsor to help us prepare Mission Creek for the next major Bay Area earthquake. Please download and review the proposal, and contact us with any questions. Donated funds are, of course, fully tax deductable.

Friends of RumbleBox

SFCARD (San Francisco Community Agencies Responding to Disaster) works with human service agencies serving vulnerable populations in San Francisco to survive disasters, provide uninterupted services to their clients, and coordinate for long term recovery. Their assistance and support has helped make RumbleBox a success since its inception.

Safeway has supplied the RumbleBox coalition with the most critical element of our survival kit, fresh water. Through generous donations, Safeway has lowered the overall cost of each kit we create, allowing the distribution of more kits to those who critically need them.
